This is the Fender Special Edition Koa Stratocaster, a limited-run model that blended Custom Shop-level looks with classic Strat tone. At the time, this was the first Fender ever to use koa outside of the Custom Shop — and it shows. The wood alone makes this one stand out from anything else Fender was doing in that era.

Koa’s not just beautiful — it’s rare. Hailing from Hawaii, it’s one of the most prized tonewoods out there, used mostly in $4K+ Custom Shop builds. This one pairs that gorgeous koa veneer with a contoured alder body in a deep Antique Burst finish that shows off the grain beautifully. The birdseye maple neck is also killer.

It’s loaded with Seymour Duncan single coils in all three positions, giving it a rich, balanced sound that keeps the sparkle of a Strat but adds a little more depth and warmth from the koa.

Condition-wise, it’s excellent. One small area worth noting on the body (last picture), but other than that this one’s been well kept and plays just as good as it looks. Even finding a light swirl on it is challenging.
