I’ve handled a lot of modern shred-focused guitars over the years, and this particular Schecter CR-6 is one of those pieces that immediately feels dialed the second you pick it up. It’s got that perfect balance of aggression and refinement—built to play fast, but still musical and responsive in a way that keeps you coming back.
The first thing that grabs you is the top. That Charcoal Burst finish over the figured burl top has a ton of depth—almost three-dimensional in the way it shifts under light. It’s not just another dark burst… it has movement, texture, and character that stands out in a sea of typical finishes. The matching headstock ties it all together and gives it that cohesive, high-end look Schecter does so well.
Condition-wise, this one is in excellent shape. It’s been really well cared for, and any signs of use are minimal. I went through it properly—fresh set of strings, frets polished smooth, fretboard cleaned and conditioned, full wipe-down and a quick setup—so it’s playing exactly how you’d want it right out of the case. Low, fast action with no nonsense.
Where this guitar really shines is in how it plays and responds. The thin “C” neck profile and ultra-access carve make it feel effortless up and down the board. It’s fast without feeling flimsy, and comfortable enough to sit on for hours. The 25.5” scale keeps things tight and articulate, especially if you’re into heavier styles or drop tunings.
Tonally, the stock Schecter Diamond Decimator pickups hit that sweet spot between modern output and clarity. They’ve got plenty of punch and aggression for high gain, but they clean up better than you’d expect. And yes—this model does feature coil splitting, which opens it up nicely for cleaner, more dynamic tones when you need them. It’s a surprisingly versatile setup for a guitar that clearly leans toward the shred side of things.
Hardware is exactly what you want on something like this—hardtail bridge for rock-solid tuning stability and sustain, no fuss, just plug in and go. It’s a player’s guitar through and through.
What stood out to me
- The burl top on this one has incredible contrast and movement—way more character than most CR-6s I’ve seen
- Neck feels fast but still substantial enough to stay comfortable during longer sessions
- Setup came together effortlessly—this one just wants to play
- Coil split actually usable, not just a throwaway feature
- Overall feel punches above its price point in a big way
