I’ve handled a good number of S2 Singlecuts, and these satin Standards are kind of a sleeper in the PRS lineup—but this particular one really shows why.
This 2016–2019 PRS S2 Singlecut Standard in McCarty Tobacco Sunburst has that stripped-down, no-nonsense look that just works. The satin finish lets the wood breathe visually—you’re not getting a thick gloss hiding everything. Instead, you see the grain, the subtle variation, and that warm tobacco burst fading naturally across the body. It’s understated, but in the right way… more “player’s guitar” than showroom piece.
In hand, it feels alive. There’s a dryness to satin finishes that just makes the whole guitar feel more connected—less barrier between you and the wood. It resonates really well, and you can feel that punch immediately when you dig in. The neck has a nice width to it—fuller than a thin carve, but not bulky. It sits right in that comfortable middle ground where chords feel solid and lead work still flows easily.
It’s been dialed in properly—frets are like new, polished and clean, and it plays effortlessly up and down the neck. Action is set nicely with no buzzing, and it just has that “broken-in but not worn” feel.
Tone-wise, this one delivers. The PRS S2 humbuckers have a really satisfying punch—tight low end, clear mids, and a top end that cuts without getting harsh. It handles gain well, but where it really surprised me is the cleans—balanced, articulate, and full without getting muddy. Kick in the coil split and you get a more open, snappy character that actually feels usable, not thin or weak. It gives you a lot of range without needing to fight the guitar.
Condition is excellent. There’s one tiny mark on the back that you really have to look for, but otherwise it’s extremely clean—clearly well taken care of and mostly played lightly.
What stood out to me:
- The satin McCarty Tobacco Sunburst—warm, organic, and lets the wood show through
- The feel—resonant, broken-in, and super responsive
- The neck carve—wide enough to feel substantial, but still fast and comfortable
- The tones—punchy humbuckers with genuinely usable coil-split options
- The condition—extremely clean with only the smallest mark on the back
Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.
