I’ve had a handful of Velas come through, but every once in a while you get one that just hits different—and this Reclaimed Peroba Rosa version is absolutely one of those. This isn’t your typical S2… it’s one of the more unique runs PRS has done, both visually and tonally.
This is a 2017 PRS S2 Vela Semi-Hollow – Reclaimed Limited in Peroba Rosa (Natural), and right away the wood tells the story. PRS used reclaimed Peroba Rosa, a South American hardwood that’s not only rare, but full of character—grain patterns, subtle figuring, and those organic imperfections you just can’t fake. It gives the guitar a warmth and personality that feels closer to a boutique build than a standard production piece.
In hand, it’s incredibly resonant. The semi-hollow construction paired with that Peroba Rosa body gives it this lively, almost acoustic-like response—you feel the notes bloom and hang on just a little longer. It’s lightweight, balanced, and just feels alive against your body when you play it.
Tonally, the Vela platform already leans toward that offset, slightly gritty, vintage-leaning voice—but this one takes it a step further. The Lollar El Rayo in the bridge is a serious upgrade. It brings a tighter low end, more clarity, and a wider dynamic range compared to the stock Starla. Paired with the PRS D-Type neck pickup, the balance is spot on—you get chime and articulation in the neck, and punch and definition in the bridge without anything feeling overpowered.
This is one of those setups where you actually use both pickups, not just default to one.
Condition-wise, it’s in excellent shape. There are a few light surface scratches on the body and a small mark on the back of the neck, but nothing crazy. It’s all minor and purely cosmetic—the guitar presents beautifully and still has that clean, well-kept look overall.
What stood out to me:
- Reclaimed Peroba Rosa body – rare, organic grain with real character
- Semi-hollow design that adds resonance and a more open, airy tone
- Lollar El Rayo bridge pickup upgrade – tighter, clearer, more dynamic
- PRS D-Type neck pickup balances perfectly with the bridge
- Lightweight and extremely resonant in hand
- Unique Vela platform—offset feel with PRS build quality and precision
- Includes original Starla pickup (nice bonus for purists)
- Original PRS soft case + case candy included
This isn’t just another PRS—it’s one of those pieces that feels like it has a story behind it. Between the reclaimed wood, the semi-hollow body, and the pickup upgrade, it’s got a personality that stands out immediately.
