PRS McCarty Soapbar 1999 - McCarty Sunburst

This 1999 PRS McCarty Soapbar is one of those older PRS guitars that immediately feels different from the more modern stuff. The McCarty line was already built around a more vintage-minded formula, and the Soapbar version takes that even further with a pair of P-90-style pickups, the one-piece wraparound bridge, 22 frets, and a substantial neck carve.

This one has a beautiful McCarty Sunburst figured maple top with a lot of movement across it, along with the older moon inlays and engraved McCarty truss rod cover. Even the neck has some subtle figuring running through it. It has that understated late-'90s PRS look that I really like — not overly dressed up, but the woods do all the work.

At 7.72 lbs on my scale, it feels great in the hands. The neck measures 21.8mm at the 1st fret and 24.7mm at the 12th, so there’s some real depth to it without feeling cumbersome. The setup is excellent with low action, spot-on intonation, and frets that feel buttery smooth. The fretboard and frets are both in excellent shape.

The big change on this one is the pickup set. It currently has Lollar P-90s installed, and they sound fantastic in this guitar. They have a really clean, open response with plenty of punch and clarity, but they can still get thick and aggressive when pushed. The original factory soapbar pickups are included with the guitar as well, so it can be returned to its original pickup configuration if desired.

The electronics have been fully tested and everything is working properly. The tuners are smooth and hold tune well, the truss rod functions properly with room in both directions, and it has a fresh set of strings.

Condition is Very Good, but this one is exceptionally clean for a 1999 guitar. There is one small ding on the front and a few small chips along one side, all pictured. Outside of those spots, the backside, neck, and fretboard are remarkably clean. There are no breaks or repairs, no finish checking or cracks, and no odors.

Includes the original PRS hard case along with the original factory soapbar pickups.
