Questions about this guitar?
This is a beautiful early-production 1997 PRS McCarty in Natural, combining the familiar carved PRS shape with a warmer, more traditional feel. At only 7.16 pounds on my scale, it is remarkably comfortable for a substantial mahogany and maple guitar, while the original stoptail layout and simple two-knob control setup keep everything direct and player-focused.
The natural finish is the real centerpiece. The figured maple top has strong, consistent movement across nearly the entire body and honestly looks like it belongs on a 10 Top, though I am representing it simply as a standard McCarty. The soft tan coloring allows all of that figure to remain visible without overpowering it, while the gold hardware and amber control knobs give the guitar a classy, slightly aged appearance that fits it perfectly. PRS bird inlays complete the look without taking attention away from the top.
The original pickups and electronics remain intact, and the guitar sounds excellent. It has a full, musical humbucker voice with plenty of warmth and sustain, but it still retains the clarity and definition PRS guitars are known for. Chords remain articulate, individual notes have a strong fundamental, and the bridge position has enough presence to cut through without becoming harsh.
The neck is one of the strongest parts of this guitar. It feels exceptionally fast and comfortable, with smooth frets, nice low action, and an easy feel during bends. The frets are in very good condition with plenty of life remaining, intonation is spot on, and the guitar plays cleanly throughout the fretboard.
For a guitar approaching 30 years old, the condition is fantastic. The body and neck remain exceptionally clean overall, with one light finish chip along the upper rear edge of the body. Beyond that, it shows remarkably little wear for its age and presents beautifully. It includes the original PRS hardshell case.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.
⏳ Quick note: These guitars don’t usually sit. Most are purchased within 3–7 days, and I regularly hear from watchers after the listing has already sold. If this one’s on your radar, now’s the window!
I bought this guitar, inspected it, photographed it, dialed it in, and I'll be the one packing it. If something isn't right when it arrives, you're not filing a ticket — you're emailing the person who put it in the box.
Same guitar, same packing, same insurance, same 3-day return window you'd get anywhere else I list it. It just costs less here, because there's no platform fee in the price.
Questions before you buy? Ask me anything — more photos, a specific measurement, or anything the listing doesn't cover.
