PRS Custom 24 Wood Library

The top is the obvious headline on this one. This is a Wood Library 10-Top Custom 24 in Copperhead, and the figuring absolutely earns the designation. The flame is strong from edge to edge, with especially deep movement through the horns and lower half of the body. Copperhead also changes dramatically depending on the light—sometimes it looks warm and almost natural, and from another angle those darker brown lines jump forward and give the top a completely different character.

Being both a Wood Library build and a 10-Top makes this a particularly nice example of the Custom 24. The original hangtag confirms the Wood Library special order and Pattern Thin neck carve, while the 10-Top designation means PRS selected a higher-grade piece of figured maple for the top. In person, that distinction makes sense immediately. This is not subtle figuring that needs the perfect angle to show itself.

The rest of the guitar is just as well put together. The dark fretboard and bird inlays work perfectly against the warm Copperhead finish, while the natural mahogany back gives it a really clean contrast. It has that classic PRS look, but the wood selection gives this particular guitar a lot more personality than a standard production example.

More importantly, this one feels fantastic. The Pattern Thin neck is sleek without feeling insubstantial, and this particular neck has an almost polished feel in the hand. The frets are equally impressive—they have a mirror-like finish and bends feel extremely smooth. The current setup passed inspection as-is, the intonation is spot on, and I found the medium action really comfortable.

At 7.72 pounds on my scale, it is also right in the sweet spot for a Custom 24. It feels substantial enough to have some presence but never heavy, and the double-cutaway shape makes the entire neck incredibly easy to get around.

The electronics were completely tested and everything works exactly as it should. What stood out immediately when I plugged it in was how hard this guitar hits. The pickups are noticeably louder and more open than several of my other PRS guitars. There is a lot of immediate attack and clarity, but they still have enough body that the guitar never comes across thin. Clean, you get a ton of definition; with gain, it becomes extremely punchy without everything collapsing together.

The five-way blade also gives you some genuinely useful sounds beyond the two full humbucker positions. That is one of the things I have always liked about the Custom 24—you can go from a big, aggressive bridge sound into much cleaner, more open combinations without switching guitars.

Cosmetically, this one presents exceptionally well. The body, neck and backside all inspected as excellent, and there are no major dings, chips or scratches worth calling out. The top in particular is extremely clean. For a 2019 guitar, it has clearly been taken care of.

What I like most about this one is that the 10-Top is not the only reason to care about it. The looks get your attention immediately, but once you actually play it, the neck, fretwork and unusually punchy response become just as memorable. It feels alive in a way that stood out to me pretty quickly.

It is also a really good example of why I like the Wood Library program. You still get everything that makes a Core Custom 24 great, but PRS gets to be more selective with the woods and individual details. Add the 10-Top designation on top of that, and this becomes a much more distinctive guitar than a typical Custom 24.
