I’ve handled a lot of PRS Custom 24s over the years, and this particular 2000 Custom 24 10-Top has that older PRS magic that players still chase. The Custom 24 is the original PRS model, first introduced at Winter NAMM in 1985, and this era has a feel and personality that’s very different from a lot of modern production guitars. It has the look, the resonance, the older-school hardware feel, and that unmistakable PRS balance between precision and character.
The Emerald Green finish is killer in person. The carved 10-Top has deep, dramatic flame that moves beautifully under the gloss, with a natural maple edge that gives the whole guitar a very clean, high-end look. It has that rich, dark green PRS glow where the figuring almost looks three-dimensional depending on the light. Paired with the bird inlays, wide carved top, and classic PRS doublecut shape, it presents like a serious early-2000s PRS should.
Condition is very good overall, especially considering this guitar is from 2000. There are some small dings, marks, and bumps here and there, including a few visible marks on the front near the control area and some light wear on the back, but there are no breaks or cracks and nothing that affects playability. The guitar still has a beautiful gloss to it and presents extremely well. The original PRS hardshell case is included and does show its age, but it does its job and adds to the vintage PRS package. It also comes with PRS documentation and case candy.
Playability is very strong. The setup is a solid “okay” as-is — it plays smooth, sounds great, intonates spot on, and has no bad buzz. That said, it may be due for a fresh setup depending on the next player’s preference. I personally tend to like action a little lower, but it’s not bad at all right now. The frets are in fantastic shape with plenty of life left, and the fretboard is clean and healthy.
Tonally, this one has the classic PRS Custom 24 voice from this era. It has the HFS bridge and Vintage Bass neck pickup setup, paired with the 5-way rotary switch, volume, and tone controls. The HFS/Vintage Bass combination is a big part of the older Custom 24 identity — powerful, clear, articulate, and capable of everything from thick lead tones to clean, glassy split-style textures through the rotary positions. It has that focused PRS attack with plenty of sustain and a wide range of usable sounds.
What stood out to me:
- 2000 PRS Custom 24 10-Top
- Emerald Green finish
- Flame maple 10-Top with natural maple edge
- Mahogany body and neck
- Rosewood fretboard with bird inlays
- 24 frets
- PRS tremolo bridge
- HFS bridge pickup and Vintage Bass neck pickup
- 5-way rotary switching
- Excellent fret condition
- Spot-on intonation
- No breaks or cracks
- Very glossy and strong presentation for its age
- Comes with original PRS hardshell case and documentation
This is one of those older PRS guitars that feels like it has already earned its story. It’s clean enough to still feel special, worn just enough to feel honest, and it has the look, feel, and tone that made early Custom 24s such desirable instruments. Between the Emerald Green 10-Top, bird inlays, HFS/Vintage Bass pickup set, and classic 5-way rotary layout, this is a very cool piece of PRS history that’s ready to be played.
