This one is a straight up stunner. The Black Gold Burst finish already has that rich, high-end PRS look, but on this 35th Anniversary model the flame has a tighter, more elegant roll to it that gives the whole top a classy, almost molten look under light. It has that deep amber center fading into a darker edge in a way that feels refined instead of flashy, and the abalone bird inlays add just the right amount of visual pop without overdoing it. PRS positioned this anniversary model as a special SE take on the Custom 24 platform, borrowing the added switching flexibility that made Paul’s Guitar so appealing, which is a big part of why these stand out from the regular SE lineup.
This one is in excellent condition overall. The only real callout is the chip on the back side and some light finish scratches on the back, but from the front it presents beautifully and still has that clean, cared-for feel. The top is absolutely the star here, and it has that classic PRS trait where the figuring seems to shift as you move it around. It is one of those guitars that looks expensive before you even play a note.
Where this model really separates itself is in the electronics. Unlike a standard SE Custom 24 of that era, the 35th Anniversary version came loaded with PRS TCI “S” treble and bass pickups plus two mini-toggle switches, letting you run either pickup in humbucking or true single-coil mode. That gives it a much wider usable range than most guitars in this bracket: thick and full when you want the humbuckers to push, but also surprisingly articulate and glassy when you start splitting things out. It is not just a “nice extra feature” setup either. This switching layout was one of the defining selling points of the anniversary run and one of the reasons these were so well received.
The rest of the spec sheet is classic PRS in a very practical way: 24 frets, a 25-inch scale, Wide Thin maple neck, rosewood fretboard, PRS molded tremolo, and the anniversary-correct abalone “old school” bird inlays. That combination is a huge part of why these play so easily. You get the snap and precision of the PRS scale length, the upper-fret access of the Custom 24 design, and a neck carve that feels fast without going sterile. Comes with the original factory soft case.
