Gibson SG Standard '61 with Bigsby 2019 - Present - Vintage Cherry

This is a 2020 Gibson SG Standard ’61 in Vintage Cherry, upgraded with a Bigsby vibrato mounted on a non-invasive Vibramate system. The SG Standard ’61 is Gibson’s more vintage-focused take on the SG, pairing the deeply sculpted early-’60s body shape with a solid mahogany body, SlimTaper mahogany neck, bound rosewood fretboard, 22 medium-jumbo frets, trapezoid inlays, and the smaller five-ply teardrop pickguard.

The gloss nitrocellulose finish allows the grain of the mahogany to remain visible throughout the body and neck, giving the guitar the warm, almost glowing cherry appearance that looks especially good on an SG. The crown headstock inlay, aged-style Keystone tuner buttons, black reflector knobs, and nickel hardware keep the overall appearance firmly rooted in the early 1960s.

It retains its original factory Burstbucker ’61 humbuckers, which are an excellent match for this body style. They have plenty of upper-mid bite and articulation, but they are still full enough to handle thicker overdriven tones without becoming harsh. The bridge pickup is punchy and responsive, the neck stays clear and musical, and the middle position gives you a particularly useful balance of warmth and definition.

The Bigsby is mounted using a Vibramate plate, meaning the installation required no drilling or permanent alteration to the guitar. It can easily be returned to its original stopbar configuration, and the original stopbar, studs, and mounting hardware are included. The Bigsby works extremely well on this one—the guitar stays in tune, and the vibrato adds a smooth, expressive movement that gives the SG a different personality without taking away from its original character.

The SlimTaper neck feels fast and comfortable, and the current setup is excellent. The action is low with no buzzing, the intonation is spot on, and the frets are in excellent condition. It plays effortlessly and sounds exactly like a good SG should: lively, immediate, and responsive.

Condition is excellent overall, with only light finish scratches here and there from normal handling and play. There are no major dings, chips, cracks, breaks, or structural concerns. It includes the original Gibson hardshell case, inspection sheet, Gibson strap, original stopbar hardware, and the pictured accessories.
