Questions about this guitar?
This Cardinal Red Burst is such a good fit for an SG. The center is a really vivid red that fades into deep black around the edges, and the gloss finish gives it a lot more depth in person than a flat solid color ever would. It still looks unmistakably like an SG, just with a little more attitude than the usual Cherry examples.
The first thing I noticed when I picked this one up was the weight. It is only 6.25 pounds on my scale, and you absolutely feel it. This is one of those guitars that almost disappears on a strap, and paired with the thin SG body and SlimTaper neck, it is ridiculously easy to move around on.
The setup is exactly where I like it. The action is low, the intonation is spot on, and it plays effortlessly across the entire fretboard. The neck has that fast, slim '61 feel without getting overly flat, and the upper-fret access is one of the reasons I always enjoy these compared with a traditional single-cut design.
The original '60s Burstbuckers suit this guitar really well. There is plenty of bite and definition from the bridge, while the neck pickup has that thicker, rounder sound without getting muddy. They have enough output to push an amp nicely, but they still respond really well to your picking and the guitar's volume controls. The electronics tested perfectly.
Condition is excellent throughout. I am not seeing any dings, major scratches or notable blemishes on the body, neck or back. The fretboard and frets are also excellent, and overall this one has clearly been treated very well.
What stood out to me:
- Cardinal Red Burst looks fantastic on the SG body
- Extremely light at just 6.25 pounds on my scale
- Fast SlimTaper neck
- Excellent upper-fret access
- Effortless low action
- Recent setup
- Spot-on intonation
- Excellent fret and fretboard condition
- Original '60s Burstbucker pickups
- Electronics tested perfectly
- No dings or major blemishes worth noting
- Original Gibson hardshell case
- Complete original case candy
For me, the weight is what really separates this one. There are plenty of good SG Standard '61s out there, but finding one at 6.25 pounds that is this clean and already playing this well makes it a particularly nice example. It has everything I want from an SG—light weight, a quick neck, easy access all the way up the board, and that immediate punch the platform does so well.
Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.
⏳ Quick note
These guitars don’t usually sit. Most are purchased within 1–5 days, and I regularly hear from watchers after the listing has already sold. If this one’s on your radar, now’s the window!
I bought this guitar, inspected it, photographed it, dialed it in, and I'll be the one packing it. If something isn't right when it arrives, you're not filing a ticket — you're emailing the person who put it in the box.
Same guitar, same packing, same insurance, same 3-day return window you'd get anywhere else I list it. It just costs less here, because there's no platform fee in the price.
Questions before you buy? Ask me anything — more photos, a specific measurement, or anything the listing doesn't cover.
