I’ve handled quite a few SGs over the years, and every once in a while one comes through that really stands out. This particular 2019 Gibson SG Modern in Blueberry Fade is one of those guitars. Between the top, the feel, and the upgraded pickup configuration, it’s easily one of the more striking SG examples I’ve had through my hands.
The first thing that grabs you is the finish. The Blueberry Fade top on this one is exceptional, with flame figuring that really comes alive in the light. SGs aren’t always known for dramatic tops, but this one absolutely has it. The blue-to-purple burst paired with the natural figuring gives it a really unique look that stands apart from the usual SG finishes.
Playability is exactly what you’d hope for from a Modern series SG. The neck feels fast and comfortable, and it resonates extremely well. I went through the guitar and gave it a fresh setup with polished frets, an oiled fingerboard, and a full clean and polish, so it presents and plays incredibly well — honestly very close to a showroom feel.
One really cool upgrade here is the Seymour Duncan Slash Signature bridge pickup, which gives the guitar a noticeably hotter and more aggressive voice compared to the stock setup. It absolutely screams when pushed through an amp, while still cleaning up nicely when you roll back the volume.
Condition-wise, the guitar is very good overall. It presents extremely well and looks fantastic in person. The main thing worth noting is a small crack in the finish on the lower back of the body, which appears to be in the paint only and purely cosmetic. It does not affect playability or structural integrity, and I’ve included clear photos so you can see exactly what I mean.
It comes complete with the original Gibson hard shell case, along with the factory pre-pack checklist and original “baby picture.”
