There’s something about a Midtown that just hits different.

It looks like a 335 from across the room — but when you pick it up, it feels tighter, more focused, more immediate. The Gibson Midtown Standard in Heritage Cherry Sunburst is one of those short-lived models that quietly became a cult favorite.

And once you play one, you understand why.

The Heritage Cherry Sunburst on this one absolutely glows. The center has that warm golden amber that fades into deep cherry around the edges — classic Gibson, but with a slightly more modern sharpness and binding. The finish has aged beautifully, and the subtle grain peeking through gives it a ton of character.

This isn’t a fully hollow 335-style build. The Midtown uses a chambered solid mahogany body with a maple top, which gives it that semi-hollow air and resonance — without the oversized feel. It’s lighter, more comfortable, and incredibly balanced.

Plugged in is where it really separates itself.

The upgraded Gold Foil S-Grille pickups deliver everything you want with huge dynamic range:

  • Thick, woody low end
  • Punchy, vocal midrange
  • Clear top end with bite
  • That raw, expressive growl when you dig in

They clean up beautifully with volume roll-off, and when you push them, they snarl in a way humbuckers just don’t.

The neck feels fantastic — classic Gibson carve that fills the hand without feeling bulky. Frets are like new. Action is dialed. It plays effortlessly up and down the board.

Condition-wise, this one is in excellent shape — especially for a 10+ year old instrument. There are a few small bumps and light finish scratches here and there, but they’re hard to see and purely cosmetic. Nothing distracting. Nothing structural. Honestly, it presents incredibly well.

What makes these 2012–2014 Midtowns special is that Gibson didn’t keep them around long. They were USA-built, priced competitively at the time, and now they’ve become one of those “if you know, you know” models.

You get:

  • USA build quality
  • Chambered mahogany body
  • Carved maple top
  • Dual S-Grille configuration
  • Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish
  • Original hardshell case
  • Original case candy

It’s versatile enough for blues, rock, indie, jazz, alternative — and it has that slightly rebellious Gibson personality that makes you want to play louder than you probably should.

This isn’t just another semi-hollow. It’s a leaner, meaner Gibson with attitude.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.
