Gibson Memphis ES-Les Paul 2014 - Heritage Cherry Sunburst

This is a 2014 Gibson Memphis ES-Les Paul in Honeyburst, and it is one of the coolest combinations Gibson came up with during the Memphis era. You get the familiar shape, scale length, controls, and feel of a Les Paul, but inside is a lightweight semi-hollow build with F-holes, spruce bracing, and a mahogany center block. At only 5.87 pounds on my scale, it feels completely different from a typical Les Paul the moment you pick it up.

The figured Honeyburst top looks fantastic. It has a warm amber center that gradually darkens toward the edges, with plenty of flame running across the entire body. The cream binding, pickguard, pickup rings, and amber knobs give it a really clean vintage look. It is instantly recognizable as a Les Paul, but the F-holes make it feel like something much more unusual and special.

This guitar is incredibly lively and resonant. Unplugged, you can actually feel and hear the body working in a way you normally do not get from a solidbody Les Paul. It almost has an acoustic quality under your hands, but still feels comfortable and familiar once you start playing. Plugged in, the covered humbuckers give it the warmth and fullness you would expect, while the semi-hollow construction adds a little more openness and air around the notes.

The mahogany neck has Gibson’s comfortable modified ’59-style profile, paired with a rosewood fretboard, trapezoid inlays, and 22 frets. The frets are in excellent condition, the intonation is spot on, and it has new strings. The action is comfortable and the guitar plays smoothly all the way up the neck.

The body itself is in excellent condition with no major chips, dings, or scratches to take away from the presentation. The one significant condition issue is wall-hanger damage around both sides of the headstock and neck transition. The rubber from the hanger reacted with and wore through portions of the finish, leaving visible rough and discolored areas. It is cosmetic and localized to that area, but it is noticeable and has been photographed clearly. Outside of that damage, this guitar was kept in remarkably nice shape.

It includes the original Gibson hardshell case, factory inspection sheet, warranty card, and pictured paperwork. The case is also in very good overall condition.
