Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II '50s 2014 - Heritage Cherry Sunburst

I’ve handled a lot of Les Pauls over the years—Custom Shops, wild figured tops, you name it—but this particular one immediately stood out as something different. The moment I opened the case, it didn’t feel like just another Traditional Pro… it felt like someone took an already great platform and turned it into a seriously expressive, do-it-all instrument.

The Cherry Sunburst top is striking in person—tight, consistent flame that rolls under the light with that deep, almost liquid movement Gibson does so well when they get it right. It’s one of those tops that keeps catching your eye from across the room, and up close it’s just as impressive. Paired with the warm mahogany back and classic binding, it still carries that unmistakable Les Paul presence—just with a bit more personality.

At its core, it’s loaded with Gibson ‘57 Classics in the neck and bridge, so you’re getting that warm, articulate PAF-style tone—smooth and full on the neck, with a clear, punchy bridge that really sings when you dig in. That familiar Les Paul voice is absolutely there… but this one goes way beyond the standard formula.

The addition of a third Gibson 490R in the middle position, combined with a Free-Way 6-position selector, opens up a ton of usable tonal combinations—especially in the bridge + middle and neck + middle settings. It’s not just more switches for the sake of it—these are tones you actually find yourself using.

On top of that, there’s an added master volume knob integrated cleanly through the pickguard and wired into the circuit, which gives you quick, global control over everything without having to juggle multiple knobs mid-play. It’s one of those subtle upgrades that you don’t realize you needed until you have it—and once you do, it just makes the whole guitar feel more intuitive.

The Kahler tremolo brings another layer entirely. It’s smooth, stable, and adds a level of expression you rarely get on a Les Paul. Whether you’re adding slight movement or really leaning into it, it responds exactly how you’d want it to.

Everything about the work here feels intentional and well thought out. It doesn’t come across like a modded guitar—it feels like a purpose-built instrument. And despite all the upgrades, it’s been very well cared for and sits comfortably in very good to excellent condition.
