This 2014 Gibson Les Paul Traditional in Ocean Blue is one of the coolest finishes Gibson has done on a Les Paul in my opinion. The way the blue shifts in different lighting really shows off the flame in the maple top, and in person it looks even better than the photos. It’s honestly my favorite Les Paul finish I’ve owned so far.
This particular example is in excellent, near-new condition overall. The body presents beautifully with only very light signs of handling here and there. The one notable cosmetic item is a small chip on the top edge of the headstock, which is pictured clearly. Aside from that, it’s extremely clean and the top in particular looks fantastic.
What really makes this guitar stand out though is how well it plays. It currently has a low, buzz-free setup, the frets are polished and smooth, and the guitar feels incredibly comfortable and responsive. The resonance is excellent and the pickup combination on this model really delivers that classic Les Paul sound — full, warm, and articulate with plenty of bite when pushed.
The Ocean Blue flame top on this one is especially striking, with great figuring that moves nicely in the light. The back also has a slightly transparent finish, allowing some of the mahogany grain to show through when the light hits it, which is a really nice touch.
Being a 2014 model, it also features the 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret, marking Gibson’s milestone year.
This guitar is currently the one I find myself grabbing most often to play, which says a lot considering how many guitars pass through here.
