I’ve handled a lot of Les Pauls—Custom Shop pieces, wild figured tops, rare runs—but every once in a while one shows up that just completely resets your baseline. This 2014 Les Paul Standard Premium in Root Beer is one of those guitars.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the nicest top I’ve personally seen on a Gibson. The figuring is absolutely unreal—deep, rippling, almost liquid-looking flame that moves in every direction under the light. The Root Beer finish takes it to another level too… it’s got that rich amber-to-dark burst thing happening that gives the whole top a three-dimensional, almost molten look. It’s one of those guitars you catch yourself staring at longer than you meant to.

But this one isn’t just about looks—it delivers where it matters. The moment you pick it up, it feels alive. The neck is fast, comfortable, and just invites you to play. It’s one of those “effortless” guitars where everything flows without fighting you, and the sustain just hangs there.

This was part of Gibson’s more feature-packed era, and this particular one has all the right upgrades. You’ve got push-pull functionality that really opens up the tonal range—coil splits, phase options, and versatility that goes way beyond your standard Les Paul. It can go from thick, classic humbucker punch to surprisingly articulate, almost single-coil-like clarity when you want it. Super usable, not gimmicky.

The hardware and appointments round it out nicely too—locking Grover tuners for stability, smooth and reliable feel across the board, and everything working exactly as it should. It’s a true “plug in and go” instrument.

Condition-wise, it’s in excellent shape and clearly well cared for. Very clean overall with only minimal signs of handling—nothing that stands out or takes away from how striking it is. It presents like a high-end piece should.

What stood out to me:

  • 2014 Les Paul Standard Premium with upgraded feature set
  • One of the most striking tops I’ve personally come across—deep, complex flame
  • Root Beer finish with incredible depth and movement
  • Push-pull electronics for expanded tonal versatility (coil splitting and more)
  • Locking Grover tuners for solid tuning stability
  • Effortless playability with a smooth, responsive neck
  • Excellent condition with minimal wear
  • Fully cleaned, dialed in, and ready to go

This is one of those guitars that checks every box—it looks like a showpiece, plays like a dream, and has the versatility to actually back it up. Not just another Les Paul… this particular one stands out in a big way.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.

⏳ Quick note
These guitars don’t usually sit. Most are purchased within 1–5 days, and I regularly hear from watchers after the listing has already sold. If this one’s on your radar, now’s the window!
