I’ve handled quite a few Les Pauls over the years, but every now and then one shows up that just hits that perfect balance between vibe, tone, and visual character—and this particular 2004 Standard Plus is one of those.
Right away, the top pulls you in. That Honeyburst finish over a beautifully figured maple cap has that classic Gibson warmth, but with just enough flame to give it movement without being over the top. It’s the kind of top that looks different every time the light hits it. Then you start noticing the subtle finish checking across the body—tasteful, natural, and honestly something you just can’t replicate. It weaves through the grain in a way that gives the guitar a ton of character without taking away from how clean it still presents overall.
For a 20+ year old instrument, it’s in great shape. There are light bumps and surface marks here and there, exactly what you’d expect from a well-kept, played guitar—but nothing abusive. The one notable spot is a chip on the back (pictured), and that’s really the worst of it. Everything else falls into that “honest wear” category that actually adds to the story.
Where this one really separates itself is in how it sounds and responds.
It’s been upgraded with a set of Mightymite pickups along with push-pull pots for coil splitting, and it completely transforms what this guitar can do. You still get that thick, sustaining Les Paul tone—but now you’ve got clarity and versatility on tap. The coil splits open it up into surprisingly clean, articulate tones that cut through in a way most traditional Les Pauls just don’t. It genuinely feels like you’ve got multiple voices sitting inside one guitar.
The neck has that familiar, comfortable Gibson feel—substantial without being bulky—and the frets are in great condition with plenty of life left. It plays smooth, resonates well, and has that “alive” feel you want from a good Les Paul.
It comes with the original hard shell case, complete with the silk cover, which just adds to that classic Gibson presentation.
Weight: 7.6 pounds on my scale!
What stood out to me
This one just has personality. The combination of the figured top, subtle natural checking, and the upgraded electronics makes it feel like more than just another Standard. It’s got that broken-in, seasoned vibe—but with added versatility that actually makes it more usable than a stock Les Paul in a lot of real-world situations.
Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.
⏳ Quick note
These guitars don’t usually sit. Most are purchased within 1–5 days, and I regularly hear from watchers after the listing has already sold. If this one’s on your radar, now’s the window!
I bought this guitar, inspected it, photographed it, dialed it in, and I'll be the one packing it. If something isn't right when it arrives, you're not filing a ticket — you're emailing the person who put it in the box.
Same guitar, same packing, same insurance, same 3-day return window you'd get anywhere else I list it. It just costs less here, because there's no platform fee in the price.
Questions before you buy? Ask me anything — more photos, a specific measurement, or anything the listing doesn't cover.
