This 2023 Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s Figured Top in Ocean Blue has an amazing flame maple top, with broad, flowing figuring visible beneath the translucent blue finish. The color is a departure from the traditional Les Paul bursts, but the cream binding, nickel hardware, and classic '50s appointments keep it unmistakably a Les Paul Standard.

The top has a lot going on visually. The flame runs across nearly the entire body, with some tighter figuring toward the edges and wider, wavier patterns through the center. The Ocean Blue finish has a slightly washed, almost weathered appearance that lets the natural wood grain show through rather than covering it up. Against the warm mahogany back and neck, the lighter blue makes for a great contrast.

One thing that surprised me was the neck. Although this is Gibson's rounded '50s Vintage profile, it feels noticeably slimmer than most '50s Standards I've handled. I nearly had to double-check the measurements. It measures 22.0 mm at the first fret and 24.9 mm at the 12th, so there's still some depth without feeling particularly bulky.

Playability is excellent, with effortless low action, smooth frets, and spot-on intonation. The recent setup was already dialed in when it arrived, so no additional work was necessary. The frets, fretboard, and neck are all in excellent condition.

The original Burstbucker 1 and Burstbucker 2 humbuckers remain in place, paired with Gibson's hand-wired controls and Orange Drop capacitors. The guitar also retains its original ABR-1 bridge, aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, and Vintage Deluxe tuners. Everything passed my complete electronics inspection and functions correctly.

Condition is Excellent throughout. There's very minimal evidence of use, with no significant scratches or dings worth noting. The top, back, and neck all present exceptionally clean, and the guitar remains completely original with no modifications, breaks, or repairs.

It weighs 9.44 lbs on my scale and includes the original Gibson hardshell case with complete case candy.

What stood out to me:

• Effortless low action, excellent frets, and spot-on intonation

• Original Burstbucker 1 and 2 pickups with hand-wired electronics

• Excellent condition with exceptionally minimal wear

• 9.44 lbs on my scale
