Gibson Les Paul Classic 2019 - Translucent Cherry

This is a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Classic in Translucent Cherry, and this one has a little more going on visually than most Classics from this period. These were generally built with fairly plain maple tops, but this particular guitar has some legitimate figuring running through it. Under direct light you can see quite a bit of movement across the top, and the transparent red finish lets the grain show through beautifully.

The Translucent Cherry is especially good on this one. It is bright and saturated on the top, while the mahogany back and neck show plenty of grain through the finish. The cream plastics, amber knobs and open zebra pickups give it that classic hot-rodded Les Paul appearance without looking overly modern.

The original BurstBucker 61R and 61T pickups are still in place and have plenty of punch and definition. One of the better parts of the Classic is the additional switching built into the four push/pull controls—you get coil splitting, phase reversal and the direct bypass option in addition to the normal Les Paul controls. Everything passed my electronics inspection with no issues.

Playability is excellent. It has a recent setup with a brand-new set of D'Addario strings, the frets have been polished and the rosewood board has been cleaned and oiled. The action is low and effortless, the frets feel extremely smooth and intonation is spot on. The slimmer neck is also noticeably quicker feeling than a more traditional ’50s-style Les Paul.

Cosmetically, I am listing this one as Very Good. The body itself is in very good overall condition and the top still presents really nicely, but there are scattered small dings and scratches from normal use. The most noticeable wear is on the back of the neck, where there are several small dings in the finish. There is also some light smudging/cloudiness around the control area that I was not able to completely polish out. None of it affects playability, but it is all photographed clearly.

It weighs 9.74 lbs on my scale and includes the original Gibson hardshell case, inspection sheet and the rest of the complete case candy.
