First, let’s talk about why these are valuable — because it isn’t random hype.

The Les Paul Classic from this era was Gibson’s take on a 1960 reissue — slim 60’s neck profile, “1960” silkscreen on the pickguard, hot ceramic pickups, and aged/yellowed trapezoid inlays meant to mimic vintage patina. It wasn’t marketed as a Custom Shop Historic, but structurally these were extremely serious guitars.

From 1990 through the mid-2000s, these Classics were built with:

  • Solid, non-chambered mahogany bodies (pre-weight relief changes that came later in the 2000s)
  • Proper maple caps
  • Long neck tenon construction
  • Ebony fingerboards on earlier years (this being in that sweet pre-Richlite era)
  • Aged inlays from the factory — that slightly amber look collectors love

They sit in a very specific window in Gibson history — before heavy chambering became widespread, before cost-cutting shifts, and before modern spec changes diluted the “old school” Les Paul formula.

Players love them because they feel solid and substantial. Collectors love them because they represent one of the last consistent, high-quality USA production runs before Gibson’s more turbulent mid-2000s era.

Now layer that with this particular example.

Ebony is already less common than the bursts. Add all-gold hardware and gold pickup covers, and it becomes even more special. Most black Classics you see have chrome or nickel hardware — this full gold setup gives it that almost Custom-level visual presence while still keeping the Classic identity.

Condition wise… this thing is absurd.

I’m genuinely convinced this was a case queen. The finish shines like it just left the factory. On a black Les Paul — which is notorious for showing swirl marks and micro scratches — this one is remarkably clean. Swirling is minimal. No major dings. No rash. No edge wear. The gold hardware, which normally shows tarnish and dulling over time, is still bright and reflective. That alone tells you it wasn’t being gigged under stage lights for years.

Electronics appear original. The “1960” pickguard is intact. The aged inlays have that warm vintage tint that makes the ebony pop even more.

It comes with the original hard shell case — the classic Gibson case with the textured cloth exterior — exactly what you want to see with a guitar like this.

Playability matches the looks. Fresh professional setup. Low, comfortable action. Spot-on intonation. It has that solid, authoritative Les Paul response — tight low end, punchy mids, and those hotter ceramic pickups that can go from classic rock to aggressive modern tones without flinching.

Weight: 8.6 pounds on my scale.

This is one of those guitars that checks both boxes:

Collector clean.

Player ready.

And in this condition, in this color, with gold hardware? These don’t show up often — especially not this clean.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.

⏳ Quick note

These guitars don’t usually sit. Most are purchased within 3–7 days, and I regularly hear from watchers after the listing has already sold. If this one’s on your radar, now’s the window!
