Some guitars try to be perfect.
The Les Paul BFG does the opposite — and that’s exactly why it’s so cool.
BFG literally stands for “Barely Finished Guitar.” Gibson designed this model to strip away the polished, luxury vibe of a traditional Les Paul and leave behind something raw, aggressive, and built purely for playing. No gloss. No fancy binding. No cosmetic frills. Just wood, attitude, and tone.
And this 2018 BFG in Worn Ebony might be one of the coolest examples I’ve come across.
The top has this wild, almost lava-like figuring in the wood grain that looks different depending on the light. It’s dark, gritty, and incredibly unique — the kind of finish that makes people stop and stare when they see it in person.
It feels more like a custom shop hot-rod than a traditional Les Paul.
Tone – The reason people buy these
This one is loaded with dual P-90 pickups, and they absolutely rip.
If you’ve played good P-90s before, you already know the magic:
• Thick midrange punch
• Incredible clarity and bite
• Raw, aggressive attack
• Cleans up beautifully when you roll the volume back
They sit perfectly between a humbucker and a single coil — huge sounding, but still articulate. This guitar has that snarling rock tone that makes riffs feel massive.
Plugged into a good amp, this thing sounds mean in the best possible way.
The BFG design philosophy
Everything about this model was intentionally made to feel raw and stripped down:Q
• Satin Worn Ebony finish that lets the wood breathe
• No fretboard inlays — part of the minimalist design
• Unpolished, organic look that ages naturally
• Lightweight Les Paul feel with tons of resonance
It’s the kind of guitar that actually gets cooler as it picks up character over time.
Condition
Because this is a satin / barely-finished guitar, it naturally shows some small bumps, bruises, and light wear — exactly what you’d expect from this type of finish.
That said, it’s still in very good condition overall with no major flaws.
It has been professionally set up, the intonation is dialed in, and it plays fantastic up and down the neck.
Includes
• Original Gibson premium soft case
• Original case candy
