This is a 2023 Gibson Les Paul ’70s Deluxe in Wine Red, a modern return of one of the most distinctive Les Paul configurations Gibson ever produced. First introduced at the end of the 1960s, the Deluxe brought mini-humbuckers into the Les Paul lineup, delivering the fullness and hum-free performance of a humbucker with added clarity, snap, and definition. This version stays close to that classic formula with a non-weight-relieved mahogany body, bound maple top, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, and traditional hand-wired electronics.

The Wine Red finish is absolutely the centerpiece of this particular guitar. The maple top has far more visible movement and figuring than you usually see on an opaque or darker-finished Deluxe, with deep flame running across the entire body. Depending on the light, it shifts between a rich crimson red and darker wine tones, while the cream binding, pickguard, pickup rings, and gold top-hat knobs give it the unmistakable look of a vintage Deluxe. The narrower mini-humbuckers also leave more of that figured top visible, which makes the flame stand out even more.

The original Gibson mini-humbuckers are a huge part of what makes this model special. They have a tighter, quicker response than a traditional full-size humbucker, with excellent string separation and a bright, snappy character when played clean. Add gain and they become aggressive, focused, and surprisingly powerful without getting muddy. The neck position stays articulate and musical, the bridge has plenty of bite and punch, and the middle setting delivers a clear, balanced rhythm sound that cuts beautifully through a mix.

The traditional control layout consists of two volume controls, two tone controls, and a three-way selector, all hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors. The Tune-O-Matic bridge, aluminum stop bar, Graph Tech nut, and vintage-style Keystone tuners complete the vintage-inspired hardware package.

The mahogany neck has Gibson’s Rounded C profile. It is noticeably fuller than a SlimTaper neck, but it feels comfortable and fast rather than oversized. The bound Indian rosewood fretboard has a 12-inch radius, acrylic trapezoid inlays, and 22 medium-jumbo frets. The frets are in excellent condition, the neck is straight, the action feels great, and the recent setup has the intonation spot on. At 8.92 pounds on my scale, it has the substantial feel of a traditional non-weight-relieved Les Paul without being excessively heavy.

This guitar is in fantastic condition and presents extremely close to new. The body, neck, back, fretboard, frets, electronics, and hardware all inspected exceptionally well, with no notable damage or heavy play wear to call out. The current strings are due for a fresh set, but the guitar otherwise plays and sounds excellent.

It includes the original Gibson hardshell case, inspection card, owner’s manual, strap, factory photograph, paperwork, and complete original case candy.
