This is one of those Les Pauls where the top immediately does most of the talking. I bought this Greeny because the flame on it was way heavier than what I usually see on these, and in person it really delivers. The Greeny Burst has that aged golden/amber center with darker edges, but the figuring is what makes this one stand out — tight, dramatic flame across the top with a lot of movement depending on the angle.

This is the 2023 Gibson Kirk Hammett “Greeny” Les Paul Standard, based around one of the most famous Les Pauls ever — the original Greeny that passed from Peter Green to Gary Moore and eventually to Kirk Hammett. What makes this model cool is that it isn’t just a regular Les Paul with a signature name slapped on it. Gibson gave it the Greenybucker pickup set, with the neck pickup set up for that out-of-phase middle-position sound the original is known for. In plain terms, you still get all the thick Les Paul punch you’d expect, but the middle position has that sharper, nasal, almost vocal bite that makes this model different from a normal Standard.

The neck is a real chunky ’50s-style carve, which honestly suits this guitar well. It feels substantial in the hand without being awkward, and this one plays beautifully up and down the neck. It has been PLEK’d, the frets are in excellent shape, bends feel smooth, and the intonation is spot on. The setup is recent and it feels ready to go as-is.

Condition is excellent overall. Body and neck both inspected very good, with the main thing to note being some pick/play wear under the strings below the bridge pickup. Nothing structural, no breaks, no repairs, and nothing that affects playability — just honest light use in the area you’d expect. The guitar presents extremely well, especially with how strong the top is.

Spec-wise, you’re getting the classic Les Paul Standard formula: mahogany body, carved AAA figured maple top, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, 24.75” scale, 22 frets, trapezoid inlays, tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, dual Greenybucker humbuckers, and traditional 2-volume/2-tone controls. It also comes with the original hardshell case and complete case candy.

What stood out to me:

  • Heavy flame top — much stronger figuring than a lot of Greeny Standards I’ve seen
  • Greeny Burst finish has a great aged golden look without feeling overly flashy
  • Thick ’50s-style neck that gives it a solid, old-school Les Paul feel
  • Greenybucker pickups give you the normal Les Paul power plus that unique out-of-phase middle-position bite
  • PLEK’d and plays beautifully up and down the neck
  • Smooth bends, excellent frets, and spot-on intonation
  • Very clean overall with only some pick/play wear below the bridge pickup
  • Original hardshell case and complete case candy included

This one has the look, the story, and the feel. Some signature models feel more like collectibles than players, but this one actually feels like a guitar you’d want to keep out and use. Big neck, strong top, great resonance, and that Greeny pickup setup that gives it something a little different from a standard Les Paul.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself.
