Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Standard 2013 - Lemonburst

This 2013 Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Standard in Lemon Burst is one of those guitars that immediately makes sense when you see it in person. The top on this one is fantastic. There’s a ton of flame and movement across the maple, and the Lemon Burst lets the figuring do most of the work without covering it up. The lack of a pickguard and body binding gives it a stripped-down look that fits the Gary Moore connection perfectly.

This model was built as Gibson’s tribute to Gary Moore and takes a lot of its visual cues from the famous ’59 Les Paul that passed from Peter Green to Moore. That influence shows up in the Lemon Burst finish, reversed neck pickup orientation, mismatched control knobs, and generally less dressed-up presentation.

This particular example has been exceptionally well kept. It honestly looks like it spent most of its life in the case. The finish is extremely clean, the chrome hardware still presents beautifully, and the body, neck, backside, fretboard and frets all came through my inspection in excellent condition.

It also happens to be a killer player. The recent setup is low and effortless, the frets are level and extremely smooth, and intonation is spot on. The neck feels substantial without being cumbersome, and the whole guitar has that solid, planted Les Paul feel.

The original electronics passed my complete test with no issues. These pickups have noticeably more punch than what I typically hear from a standard Les Paul setup. There’s plenty of fullness, but also a sharper attack and definition that works especially well when you start pushing an amp.
