Gibson ES-339 Figured 2020 - Present - Figured Sixties Cherry

I’ve handled a lot of ES-style Gibsons, and the ES-339 has always stood out to me as one of the smartest designs Gibson ever put into this family. You get a lot of that semi-hollow warmth, air, and bloom, but in a smaller, more comfortable body that feels much closer to a Les Paul in the lap. This particular 2020 Gibson ES-339 Figured is a beautiful example, finished in Figured Sixties Cherry with a top that really jumps in person.

This is a Gibson Mod Shop guitar and does have the “MOD” stamp on the back of the headstock. That said, it appears to be factory spec otherwise, with the classic ES-339 layout, dual humbuckers, 4-knob control setup, and traditional Gibson semi-hollow feel. The Mod Shop designation adds a little extra uniqueness to an already beautiful figured 339.

The figuring on this one is the first thing that grabs you. The red finish has that rich, classic Gibson cherry look, but the flame underneath gives it way more movement and depth than a plain-top 339. Depending on the light, the figuring shifts from subtle and smoky to bold and almost three-dimensional. Paired with the cream binding, black pickguard, chrome hardware, and classic control layout, it has that perfect mix of vintage Gibson elegance and figured-top presence.

Condition is excellent and very close to like-new overall. I’m not seeing any serious blemishes, scratches, or dings to call out. The body and neck both present beautifully, the finish still has a clean gloss, and the guitar has clearly been well cared for. It also comes with the original Gibson hardshell case and complete case candy.

Playability is exactly what you want from a good ES-339. The neck feels comfortable, the frets are in excellent shape, the fretboard looks clean, and the guitar has a recent setup with spot-on intonation. It plays smoothly, rings clearly, and has that easy, expressive feel that makes these guitars so much fun to sit with.

Tonally, this one has that sweet semi-hollow character without feeling oversized or overly soft. It has warmth, openness, and a little extra air around the notes, but still keeps enough focus and snap to cover blues, rock, country, worship, studio work, and clean rhythm parts beautifully. The smaller body makes it feel tighter and more immediate than a full ES-335, while still giving you that unmistakable Gibson semi-hollow personality.
