One of a kind — when it's gone, it's gone.

This Gibson Les Paul Dark Fire is a really cool example of one of Gibson’s most unusual modern-era Les Pauls — but with the biggest advantage that this one has already been converted into a much more straightforward, reliable, player-friendly guitar.

The Dark Fire model was part of Gibson’s late-2000s push into high-tech Les Pauls, with robot tuning, onboard electronics, and a very distinctive look. This one keeps the part that made the model so interesting visually — the deep red figured top, black edges, carbon-style appointments, and lightweight chambered feel — but it has been de-robotted and upgraded into something that feels far more practical as an actual player’s guitar.

The first thing that stands out is the top. A lot of Dark Fires have more subtle figuring, but this one has a really strong, three-dimensional quilted look that moves beautifully in the light. The red is deep and vivid without looking flat, and the dark outer edge gives it a really aggressive, modern Les Paul look. It is easily one of the better-looking Dark Fire tops I have come across.

Tonally, this one has been taken in a much more usable direction. The neck pickup is a Wolfetone Mean P-90, which gives it that clear, raw, open P-90 character with plenty of bite and personality. The bridge is an aged Wolfetone Marshallhead humbucker, which brings a great classic rock voice with more push, thickness, and sustain. It is a really strong pairing — the neck has that articulate single-coil snap and growl, while the bridge gives you the fuller Les Paul punch.

The bridge pickup is also coil-split, so there is some extra flexibility on tap without overcomplicating the guitar. The electronics have been upgraded with premium custom CTS pots, making the controls feel much more familiar and reliable than the original Dark Fire setup.

Playability is excellent. It has a recent setup, fresh strings, spot-on intonation, and excellent frets. The guitar has that comfortable lightweight Les Paul feel, coming in at 7.8 lbs on my scale, which makes it noticeably easier to play for longer sessions than a lot of heavier Les Pauls. It feels lively, resonant, and very easy to get along with.

Condition is very good overall. The body and neck are both in excellent shape with only minor marks and light playwear from careful use. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs. It has been kept in a smoke-free home and presents extremely well in person.

The original Dark Fire parts package is included, along with the original custom hard shell case. That makes this one especially cool because you get the collectible Dark Fire history and original parts, but the guitar itself is already set up in a way that most players would actually prefer to use.
