I’ve handled a lot of Tele-style guitars, and every once in a while one comes through that reminds you why Leo Fender’s later designs don’t get enough credit. This G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy is exactly that kind of guitar—familiar at a glance, but once you spend a few minutes with it, it’s clear there’s a lot more going on under the hood.

The first thing that hits you is the finish. This 3-Tone Sunburst has that perfect balance—deep, rich edges fading into a warm amber center where the grain really shows through. It’s clean, glossy, and just feels right for this style of guitar. Paired with the tort-style pickguard and chrome hardware, it has that classic look—but a little sharper, a little more refined than your average Tele.

Condition-wise, this one is excellent. It’s the kind of guitar that looks like it’s been owned, not used. The body, neck, and frets are all in great shape with hardly any signs of handling. It’s been professionally set up, and it shows the second you pick it up—low, comfortable action and a really dialed-in feel across the board.

What really separates the Bluesboy from a traditional Tele is the pickup configuration. You’ve got G&L’s AS4255C Alnico single-coil in the bridge—snappy, articulate, and full of that classic bite—but paired with a G&L AW4370 Alnico humbucker in the neck. That combo opens this guitar up in a big way. The neck position is warmer, smoother, and fuller than a typical Tele, almost drifting into semi-hollow territory in how it responds. Flip back to the bridge and it tightens right up with that familiar twang and attack. It’s one of the most usable, real-world versatile setups you can get in a Tele-style guitar.

Another thing that stands out immediately is the neck. G&L leaves these Tribute Series necks with a light satin/unfinished feel, and it makes a huge difference. It’s smooth, fast, and feels like actual wood in your hands—not sticky, not overcoated—just effortless to move around on.

This is one of those guitars that makes a lot of sense for someone who wants a Tele foundation but needs more range. It covers clean, warm tones beautifully, but still has that snap and edge when you dig in. You can go from mellow, rounded neck tones to cutting bridge sounds without ever feeling like you’re switching guitars.
