This 2018 Fender Ed O’Brien Artist Series Signature EOB Stratocaster in Olympic White is one of those guitars that makes a lot more sense the second you actually plug it in. It looks like a clean, slightly unusual Strat at first glance, but the sustainer system and pickup layout turn it into something completely different from a traditional Strat.

The neck immediately stood out to me. It has an unusually strong amount of flame for a production Fender at this price point, and the figuring carries down the back of the neck, across the maple fingerboard, and all the way onto the headstock. It looks wild in person. The neck also has a thicker, rounded feel that I really like. Combined with the low action and polished frets, this thing is ridiculously fun to play.

The frets are in excellent condition with no dents or heavy wear, and they have a mirror-like polish that makes bends and slides feel extremely smooth. The current setup is low and effortless, the intonation is spot on, and the guitar feels fast without feeling thin or insubstantial in your hand.

The electronics are where this guitar really separates itself. Everything is original and passed my complete electronics test, including the active sustainer system. Between the Seymour Duncan bridge pickup, traditional middle pickup sounds, and the sustainer at the neck, there is a huge amount of ground available here. Turn the sustainer on and held notes can keep going and move into some really cool harmonic textures. It is one of those features that you can lose a surprising amount of time playing with.

What stood out to me:

• Beautifully figured flamed maple neck

• Flame carries through the fingerboard and headstock

• Active sustainer system works perfectly

• Original pickups and electronics

• Thick, comfortable neck profile

• Mirror-polished frets with no heavy wear

• Effortless low action

• Spot-on intonation

• Excellent fretboard condition

• Complete electronics test passed

7.72 lbs on my scale

• Factory Fender gig bag included

Condition is Very Good overall. The body and neck are both excellent, while the backside is rated very good. The only thing keeping me from calling the entire guitar excellent is a paint chip near the plastic control cavity cover. Beyond that, it is in really nice shape and presents extremely well.

At 7.72 lbs, it also feels nicely balanced and manageable for a Strat with this much going on electronically.

This has easily been one of the more fun non-Custom Shop Strats I’ve had here. The sustainer makes it legitimately different rather than just being another signature model with cosmetic changes, and that heavily figured neck gives this particular example a ton of personality.

The photos shown are real photographs of this exact guitar. I do not use AI-generated imagery, replacement backgrounds, or image manipulation to misrepresent the condition of my guitars. What you see is the instrument you’ll receive.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and fully insured via Reverb Safe Shipping.

Quick note: Most of my guitars sell within 1–5 days, and I regularly hear from watchers after the listing has already sold. If this one’s on your radar, now’s the window!

Buying direct from me

I bought this guitar, inspected it, photographed it, dialed it in, and I'll be the one packing it. If something isn't right when it arrives, you're not filing a ticket — you're emailing the person who put it in the box.

Same guitar, same packing, same insurance, same 3-day return window you'd get anywhere else I list it. It just costs less here, because there's no platform fee in the price.

Questions before you buy? Ask me anything — more photos, a specific measurement, or anything the listing doesn't cover.
