I’ve handled a lot of Strats over the years—vintage, modern, everything in between—and this particular 70th Anniversary Vintera II in Antigua just hits different. It’s one of those guitars that immediately feels special, not just because of the look, but because of how effortlessly it plays and resonates.

Let’s talk about that finish first. Antigua is one of those polarizing, cult-classic Fender finishes that’s come full circle—and this one absolutely nails it. The way the smoky burst fades into that muted gold center has a vintage-meets-modern vibe that stands out instantly without trying too hard. In person, it has a warmth and depth that photos only partially capture. And with the 70th Anniversary badge still on there, it gives it that “new old stock” kind of feel—like a time capsule Strat that just hasn’t been played yet.

Condition is about as close to new as it gets. There are a couple extremely light surface marks—one on the horn and a small one on the headstock—but you really have to go looking for them. The frets are practically untouched, and the whole guitar still has that crisp, clean feel you want when picking up something fresh. It’s also noticeably lightweight, which makes a big difference whether you’re playing standing up or just spending long sessions with it.

This one has that classic Vintera II DNA—alder body, vintage-style hardware, and a comfortable ‘60s-inspired neck profile that sits right in the hand. Not too chunky, not too thin—just that sweet spot where chords feel full and lead work stays fluid. The rosewood board adds a bit of warmth to the overall tone and feel.

The pickups are Fender’s vintage-voiced single coils, and they deliver exactly what you want out of a Strat—but with a bit more refinement than your average player-grade model. The neck is glassy and full, the in-between positions have that unmistakable quack, and the bridge has enough bite to cut through without getting harsh. It’s a very usable, musical set across all positions.

The tremolo is the classic 6-point vintage style, which keeps things authentic and adds to that traditional Strat feel under your hand. It’s stable, responsive, and just feels right if you’re used to the older Fender style bridges.

What stood out to me

  • The Antigua finish on this one is exceptionally clean and evenly faded—some look blotchy, this one doesn’t
  • Surprisingly lightweight for a Vintera—very comfortable and resonant
  • Neck profile sits perfectly in that “just right” zone for both rhythm and lead
  • Pickups have that classic Strat sparkle but feel a bit more refined and balanced
  • Overall feel is way closer to a higher-tier Fender than you’d expect
