This 2013 EVH Wolfgang Special in Black Cherry Burst comes from the short-lived Chinese production era, around 2012–2013, when the Specials retained many of the specifications found on the earlier Japanese-built models. This is not a Wolfgang Standard or one of the later Mexican-made Specials. Between the deeply quilted top, birdseye maple fretboard, and matching headstock, it's a particularly interesting version of the Wolfgang.
The Black Cherry Burst finish is impressive on this example. The quilt has a deep, almost three-dimensional appearance, with bright red figuring running across the flat top before fading into nearly black edges. Cream body binding outlines the shape, while the matching headstock and black-and-cream zebra pickups tie everything together. The figuring on the birdseye maple fretboard is another detail worth looking at closely.
These early Chinese-made Specials followed the Japanese production run and retained several features that would change on later models. Construction includes a basswood body with a flat quilted maple veneer top, a quartersawn maple neck with graphite reinforcement, and a 12"–16" compound-radius birdseye maple fretboard. The 22 vintage-style stainless steel frets are another notable difference from the jumbo nickel frets used on later Specials.
Hardware includes EVH-branded Gotoh tuners with pearloid buttons and an EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo with D-Tuna for switching between standard and drop-D tuning. The dual direct-mounted EVH Wolfgang humbuckers have the cream-and-black zebra appearance associated with this production period, along with the straightforward three-way selector, master volume, and master tone layout.
The guitar is in fantastic cosmetic condition, especially considering its age. It's been kept remarkably clean, with little to no noticeable blemishes. The glossy finish presents beautifully, and the quilted top has retained its depth and clarity. The natural maple neck and birdseye fretboard also look very clean.
Included is an EVH molded hardshell case with a red plush interior.
What stood out to me:
• Harder-to-find 2012–2013-era Chinese-made Wolfgang Special
• Deeply figured Black Cherry Burst quilted top with matching headstock
• Birdseye maple fretboard with attractive figuring throughout
• Quartersawn maple neck with graphite reinforcement and satin finish
• 22 vintage-style stainless steel frets and 12"–16" compound radius
• EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo with D-Tuna
• EVH Gotoh tuners with pearloid buttons and zebra humbuckers
• Exceptionally clean cosmetic presentation for its age, with EVH hardshell case
The photos shown are real photographs of this exact guitar. I do not use AI-generated imagery, replacement backgrounds, or image manipulation to misrepresent the condition of my guitars. What you see is the instrument you’ll receive.
Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and fully insured via Reverb Safe Shipping.
⏳ Quick note: These guitars don’t usually sit. Most are purchased within 3–7 days, and I regularly hear from watchers after the listing has already sold. If this one’s on your radar, now’s the window!
I bought this guitar, inspected it, photographed it, dialed it in, and I'll be the one packing it. If something isn't right when it arrives, you're not filing a ticket — you're emailing the person who put it in the box.
Same guitar, same packing, same insurance, same 3-day return window you'd get anywhere else I list it. It just costs less here, because there's no platform fee in the price.

Not as described, or damaged in shipping? Full refund, including the shipping you paid, and I pay return shipping. “As described” means everything in the listing: photos, condition notes, specs and included accessories. Every guitar is insured for its full price. If it's damaged in transit, I handle the carrier claim, and you choose between a repair at my expense or a full refund.
Changed your mind? Return it in the condition it arrived, with everything it came with, for a flat $150 fee. The fee is the same whether the guitar was $900 or $9,000, not a percentage. Return shipping is the buyer's responsibility.
