This Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay RS in Burnt Amber is an absolutely killer modern USA-made guitar that blends the bold, offset look of the original ’70s StingRay with the kind of fit, finish, and playability Music Man is known for. It has the lightweight Okoume body, dual custom Music Man humbuckers, modern tremolo, 25.5-inch scale, and the highly refined roasted figured maple neck that makes these feel far more premium than most bolt-on guitars.
The Burnt Amber finish is unreal in person. It moves from a bright amber center into deep red and nearly black edges, with a ton of warmth and contrast across the body. The tortoiseshell pickguard fits it perfectly, but the real centerpiece is the neck. This is one of the most heavily figured roasted maple necks I have seen on a StingRay RS, with strong flame running up the full length of both the neck and matching maple fingerboard.
The original Music Man humbuckers deliver a big, bold voice without losing clarity. They have enough output for thick rock tones and gain-heavy playing, but still stay articulate and smooth for clean work or lower-gain tones. The three-way selector gives you a very usable range of pickup combinations, while the simple volume and tone layout keeps it intuitive and easy to dial in.
The hardware package is exactly what you would expect from Music Man. It has the Modern Classic tremolo with vintage-style bent steel saddles, locking Schaller tuners, a compensated nut, and the oversized 4-over-2 headstock arrangement for a straight string pull and excellent tuning stability. The sculpted five-bolt neck joint also makes the upper frets feel completely accessible.
The roasted figured maple neck is especially good on this one. It has Music Man’s asymmetrical carve, which is fuller along the bass side and naturally tapers toward the treble side. It feels substantial enough to be comfortable and stable, but never bulky. The hand-rubbed oil and wax finish leaves the neck much smoother and more natural-feeling than a heavily glossed neck, and it plays fast without feeling overly thin or sterile.
This particular StingRay RS is in excellent condition and presents beautifully. It has barely been played, with no major dings, chips, or distracting wear to mention. The neck is excellent, the frets are in excellent shape, electronics work exactly as they should, and the guitar has spot-on intonation with a comfortable setup and excellent action. It sounds amazing, feels great in the hands, and covers a lot of tonal ground. It includes the factory Music Man gig bag.
