I’ve handled a lot of Les Paul-style guitars, and this particular Greeny immediately has that “special run” feel the second you see it. The Greeny Burst top has a killer golden flame with darker, smoky edges, and the figuring really comes alive in the light. It has that vintage old-burst character without looking forced — cream plastics, covered Gibson USA Greenybuckers, black back and sides, and the unmistakable Greeny-inspired vibe that makes this model feel a lot more special than a standard production Les Paul.

This is the 2023 Epiphone Kirk Hammett “Greeny” ’59 Les Paul Standard, part of Epiphone’s higher-end Inspired by Gibson Custom lineup. It’s based on one of the most famous Les Pauls ever — the legendary “Greeny” guitar associated with Peter Green, Gary Moore, and now Kirk Hammett. The big selling point here is that Epiphone didn’t just make a cosmetic tribute; this model comes loaded with serious specs, including Gibson USA Greenybucker pickups, 50s-style wiring, CTS pots, Mallory capacitors, a reverse-mounted neck pickup with reversed magnetic polarity for the famous out-of-phase middle-position tone, mahogany body, maple top with AAA flame maple veneer, one-piece mahogany neck, long neck tenon, Graph Tech nut, Grover Rotomatic tuners, and classic ABR-style bridge/stopbar hardware.

Condition is excellent overall. The body is in excellent shape, and the neck is very good. The main thing worth noting is some wall-hanger rub wear near the headstock, along with a crack in one of the bridge volume knobs. Since the inspection, I changed the strings, oiled the fretboard, and cleaned up any scratchy pots, so it’s now playing cleanly and feeling much more dialed in. It has had a recent setup, intonation is spot on, and it plays well with a strong, comfortable feel. Weight is 8.82 pounds on my scale.

What stood out to me:

  • The Greeny Burst top has a really strong golden flame and looks killer in person.
  • Gibson USA Greenybucker pickups give it a more serious voice than a typical Epiphone Les Paul.
  • The middle position has that signature Greeny-style out-of-phase character.
  • Fresh strings installed, fretboard oiled, and pots cleaned.
  • Recent setup with spot-on intonation.
  • Excellent overall condition with only the noted wall-hanger rub and cracked knob.
  • Comfortable Les Paul weight at 8.82 pounds on my scale.

Tonally, this one has a lot of personality. The pickups have that thick Les Paul foundation, but the Greeny wiring gives it a range you don’t get from a normal two-humbucker setup. You can get warm, vocal neck tones, a punchy bridge sound, and then flip into that hollow, expressive, out-of-phase middle position that made the original Greeny so iconic. It’s a great fit for blues, classic rock, hard rock, heavier gain, and anyone who wants a Les Paul-style guitar with real character baked into it.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.
