This is one of those Carvins that reminds you why people who know these guitars tend to hang onto them. The SC90 has that small-batch, USA custom-shop feel all over it — a sleek single-cut shape, carved figured top, 24-fret layout, dual humbuckers, locking tuners, fixed bridge, and the kind of build quality Carvin/Kiesel developed such a loyal following for.

Visually, this one is a stunner. The Tobacco Burst has a deep amber center that rolls into a dark outer edge, and the figured top has that tight, almost 3D flame character that shifts beautifully under light. The all-black hardware and black body edges give it a darker, more modern feel than a typical singlecut, while the glossy body paired with the satin-feeling neck makes it feel both dressed-up and player-focused.

Condition is excellent and honestly presents close to like new. This was originally bought more as a collector piece, and it shows. The body and neck are both in excellent condition, the frets look and feel fantastic, the fretboard is clean, electronics test perfectly, and the original pickups are still intact. The neck and frets feel incredibly smooth — bends are easy, the frets feel fresh, and the guitar has that fast, broken-in feel without looking heavily played.

Tone-wise, it sounds excellent. The stock Carvin humbuckers give it a clear, punchy voice with enough output for rock and gain, but still enough definition to keep chords from turning muddy. The fixed bridge gives it a solid, direct feel, and the singlecut body has plenty of sustain and resonance.

Full transparency: this one could benefit from a final professional setup to get it absolutely dialed in. It came in with some heavier buzzing on the low E string, which I’ve since corrected, and it plays well now, but the intonation could still be dialed in a little tighter and the action could potentially come down further. My personal opinion is that the low E nut slot may be a touch low. As it sits, it plays well, sounds great, and feels excellent in the hands — I just like being upfront when I think a guitar still has room to be optimized.

What stood out to me:

  • USA-made Carvin SC90 with custom-shop character and build quality
  • Gorgeous Tobacco Burst figured top with deep amber flame and dark edges
  • Gloss body with factory satin-split neck feel for smoother playability
  • Original pickups and electronics
  • Locking tuners
  • 24-fret layout
  • Fixed bridge for solid sustain and tuning stability
  • Frets feel like new and bends are smooth
  • Excellent overall condition and originally collector-owned
  • Comes with the original hardshell case

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.

⏳ Quick note
