When a builder says a body is "two-piece" or "three-piece," they are talking about how many boards of wood were glued edge-to-edge to make the blank the body shape gets cut from. A one-piece body is a single slab wide enough to cover the whole outline. A two-piece has one glue seam running down the middle; a three-piece has two. That's it. It has nothing to do with quality control, nothing to do with a guitar being "chopped up," and nothing to do with a repair.

Here is the part that surprises people: multi-piece is the norm, not the exception. A slab of mahogany or alder wide enough to yield a one-piece body without a knot or defect is genuinely rare, and it costs real money. So the factory glues two or three well-matched boards together and moves on. If a guitar has a see-through burst or a natural finish, you can see every seam. A one-piece body under a trans finish looks cleaner to a lot of buyers, and a beautifully bookmatched two-piece figured top is prized precisely because the mirror-image grain is stunning. What it means for buying used

Day to day, this is the practical payoff. Do not walk away from a good used guitar because you spot a body seam under a solid finish or because the spec says "three-piece." That is completely normal construction and it should not move the price much, if at all. A clean, well-fit seam is a non-issue.
