gibson-les-paul-standard-with-60s-neck-profile-2003-latte-creme
Gibson Les Paul Standard with '60s Neck Profile 2003 - Latte Creme

This 2003 Gibson Les Paul in Latte Creme is one of the more unusual early-2000s Les Pauls I’ve had come through, and the finish is probably my favorite part of the guitar. It has this soft cream-gold color over a figured maple top that changes quite a bit depending on the light. From some angles it looks almost understated, and then the flame jumps out once the guitar moves.

At 8.82 lbs on my scale, it also lands in a really comfortable range for a full-size Les Paul. The current setup is recent, the intonation is spot on, and the action sits comfortably in the medium range. The fretboard is excellent and the frets are in equally nice shape, so there is nothing about the playing surface that feels like a 20-plus-year-old guitar.

The biggest change from stock is the set of Arcane 13 humbuckers. These are probably my favorite part of the guitar from a playing standpoint. They hit noticeably harder than the original-style setup, with more immediate punch and output, but they still retain enough clarity that chords don’t turn into a wall of sound. The bridge has a lot of authority and attack, while the neck stays full and warm without getting muddy.

The previous owner also rearranged the control layout to match what he was used to on Wolfgang-style guitars. The neck volume and tone controls are positioned below, while the bridge volume and tone controls are above. It’s unusual on a Les Paul, but once you know the layout it works exactly as intended. I went through the complete electronics system and everything passed inspection.

What stood out to me:
• Rare Latte Creme finish
• Figured maple top with a lot of movement in the light
• 8.82 lbs on my scale
• Upgraded Arcane 13 humbuckers
• Pickups sound noticeably punchier and more powerful than the stock-style setup
• Reversed control orientation based on the previous owner’s preference
• Recent setup
• Spot-on intonation
• Excellent fretboard condition
• Excellent fret condition
• Electronics completely tested and working properly
• Original Gibson hardshell case
• Includes the pictured warranty booklet and inspection sheet

Condition is Very Good overall, with a lot of the guitar presenting closer to Excellent. There is a small nick along the lower backside of the headstock, some light buckle rash on the back, and a couple of very light finish dings on the front. None of it is major, and considering the age, this one has been kept in really nice shape.

The body itself is especially clean. The Latte Creme top still has a strong gloss and the figuring shows beautifully without being buried under wear. The neck feels great, the fretboard is clean, and nothing about the guitar suggests it was heavily played or neglected.

The Arcane pickups and the control-layout change give this one a little more personality than a completely stock Les Paul, but the modifications still feel purposeful. The result is a Les Paul that looks unusual, plays comfortably, and has a much more aggressive response than I expected when I first plugged it in.

Includes the original Gibson hardshell case, warranty booklet and inspection sheet.

The photos shown are real photographs of this exact guitar.
