gibson-les-paul-standard-50s-translucent-oxblood
Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s - Translucent Oxblood

This Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s Figured Top in Translucent Oxblood is one of those guitars that looks almost understated at first, then completely changes once you get it into the right light. Built around the classic Les Paul recipe, it has a solid non-weight-relieved mahogany body, carved AA figured maple top, mahogany neck with the rounded ’50s profile, rosewood fretboard, vintage-style hardware, and the thick, resonant feel that makes a good Les Paul Standard hard to put down.

The Translucent Oxblood finish is what makes this one especially cool. In normal room lighting, it reads far darker than most people expect—almost black with a deep wine-red undertone. In stronger daylight, though, the red comes alive and the figured maple top starts to show through in a much more obvious way. I included a brighter photo specifically so you can see the actual Oxblood color and top figuring more clearly, but I want to be completely transparent that it presents much darker in person under average lighting.

The construction is exactly what you want from a proper ’50s-style Les Paul. The mahogany body gives it that warm, full low-mid response and endless sustain, while the maple cap adds clarity and bite on top. The rounded ’50s neck has a substantial, comfortable feel without being awkwardly oversized, and the rosewood board with trapezoid inlays gives it the classic look and feel these Standards are known for.

It is loaded with the factory-calibrated Burstbucker 1 in the neck and Burstbucker 2 in the bridge. Both use Alnico II magnets and are designed to capture that open, airy, slightly unpotted PAF-style character. The neck pickup is smooth, warm, and articulate for clean work and lead playing, while the Burstbucker 2 adds a little more push and bite in the bridge without becoming harsh. The traditional two-volume, two-tone layout with Orange Drop capacitors gives you plenty of control to clean up or shape the guitar without losing its personality.

This particular example is in fantastic, like-new condition. The body, neck, frets, and electronics are all excellent, and it has been Plek’d with a great setup and action. Intonation is spot on, it plays and sounds amazing, and it is exactly the kind of Les Paul that feels ready to go as soon as you pick it up.

It weighs 9.58 pounds on my scale and includes the original Gibson hardshell case along with the complete original case candy, paperwork, accessories, and Sweetwater materials.

What stood out to me

Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s Figured Top

Translucent Oxblood custom-color finish

Dark, nearly black appearance in normal lighting with deep red tones in stronger light

AA figured maple top that becomes much more visible under direct light

Solid non-weight-relieved mahogany body

Beautifully figured mahogany back

Rounded ’50s Vintage mahogany neck profile

Rosewood fretboard with acrylic trapezoid inlays

22 medium-jumbo frets

Factory Burstbucker 1 neck pickup

Factory Burstbucker 2 bridge pickup

Alnico II magnets and vintage-style PAF-inspired tone

Traditional two-volume, two-tone control layout

Orange Drop capacitors

ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge

Aluminum stopbar tailpiece

Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons

Gold Top Hat knobs

Factory Plek’d fretwork

Great action and setup

Spot-on intonation

Excellent fret condition

Excellent, near-new overall condition

9.58 pounds on my scale

Original Gibson hardshell case included

Complete original case candy, paperwork, and accessories included

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play.
