gibson-custom-shop-special-order-les-paul-axcess-custom-peacock-widow
Gibson Custom Shop Special Order Les Paul Axcess Custom Peacock Widow

This is one of those guitars where the photos almost make it look unreal. The Peacock Widow finish over that heavily flamed top is ridiculous in person—deep teal/blue with dark figuring running almost the entire width of the body, and it changes quite a bit depending on the angle and lighting. Even for a Custom Shop Les Paul, this one feels special.

More importantly, it is probably the best-playing Les Paul I currently own. The Axcess design makes a much bigger difference than I expected. The neck is very slim and fast, and the sculpted heel makes the upper frets dramatically more comfortable than a traditional Les Paul. There is none of that feeling of running into a block of mahogany once you get high on the neck. With the current low action and recent setup, it feels effortless from the first fret all the way up.

The 496R and 498T pickups are another big part of why I like this guitar so much. The easiest way I can describe them is like somebody added an “11” to the volume knob on my amp. They are incredibly immediate, punchy and responsive without turning into a muddy wall of output. Pick lightly and they clean up nicely; dig into them and the guitar jumps. Everything electronically tested exactly as it should.

Condition-wise, this one is about as close to new as I can realistically describe a pre-owned guitar. The body, back, neck, fretboard and frets are all excellent, and I am not seeing any meaningful play wear worth calling out. Intonation is spot on and the setup is already right where I would want it.

There are also a couple of details that make this particular example especially interesting. It has the newer split/reinforced construction visible at the back of the headstock, and the Axcess heel contour is immediately noticeable when you turn the guitar over. This was also part of a very limited custom-order run, and this exact guitar was featured by Bizarre Guitar Reno in one of their recent TikToks.

What stood out to me:

The Peacock Widow top is absolutely insane in person

Extremely deep flame figuring across nearly the entire maple top

Slim, fast neck that feels noticeably thinner than a traditional Les Paul Custom

Axcess heel makes upper-fret playing dramatically more comfortable

Effortless low action with a recent setup

Extremely responsive, punchy original pickups

Electronics tested perfectly

Spot-on intonation

Excellent fret and fretboard condition

Presents essentially as new

7.75 pounds on my scale—very comfortable for a Les Paul Custom

Original Gibson Custom hardshell case

Complete original case candy and Certificate of Authenticity

Extremely limited Peacock Widow configuration

This exact guitar was featured by Bizarre Guitar Reno

This is easily one of the nicest Les Pauls I have had come through my hands. It has the visual presence you would expect from an over-the-top Custom Shop build, but what surprised me is how much the Axcess changes the actual experience of playing it. It is lighter, faster and substantially easier to reach around than the traditional Les Paul Custom shape, while still feeling unmistakably like a proper Les Paul.

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives.
